The Covington Hat is a warm and cozy hat that is perfect for those chilly fall and winter days! It features layered stitches to give it some thickness to lock in the warmth, and create visual interest.

Pattern Inspiration:
I love playing with stitch combinations to create interesting visual textures. I came up with the Covington Hat while I was learning a new stitch and decided I wanted to pair it with another of my favourite stitch combinations to create a hat with alternating textures.
Pattern Details:
For this pattern I used a worsted weight #4 yarn and a 5mm, size H hook.
I chose Red Heart Soft in Teal as I was stash busting and looking for something super cute to make with it. Bernat Satin or Caron Simply Soft would pair nicely with this pattern as well. This yarn is 100% acrylic and can be machine washed and dried. It’s my go to yarn for when I’m designing for busy families and children.
The largest hat uses approximately 172 yards of yarn.
This pattern now comes in four sizes: sizes 6/12 months, 12/36 months, 3 to 10 years and Youth/Adult Small.
The pattern is rated Experienced Beginners in pattern difficulty. All the stitches used are basic crochet stitches, though some are worked around the posts of double crochets.
The hat is worked from the top down, using basic increases to get to the required width.
